Home Keeper's Fine Display.
Peterhead gave Aberdeen A a good game at Recreation Grounds in an Aberdeen and District League fixture, the Pittodrie team only winning by two goals to nothing. Peterhead put up a plucky fight in the first half, but in the second, Aberdeen were distinctly superior although they did not exert themselves. A feature of the game was the display given by Henderson, the home keeper, who did much to save his side from a bigger defeat. Aberdeen were first to be dangerous, a cross by McKenzie giving the home defence some trouble. Ritchie had Henderson in action from a free kick, and then Merrie missed a chance. A brisk raid by Peterhead saw Blackwell clear with difficulty from Smith. Aberdeen were not long on the defensive, and after twenty-five minutes, smart work by Merrie and McLeod resulted In McKenzie opening the scoring. Peterhead replied in spirited fashion, and Blackwell saved from Massie. The home team showed up well until the interval, but could make little impression the Aberdeen defence. The football was not of a very high order in the second period, Aberdeen practically monopolising the play. The first thrill during this period came when a great drive by Falloon grazed the crossbar. Aberdeen kept pegging away in half-hearted fashion, and ultimately Donald secured a second goal. Towards the finish Peterhead rallied, but the Aberdeen defence was not seriously troubled.Source: Press & Journal, 1st April 1929
