Maud 2 - 5 Aberdeen

After our first defeat at Dundee it was good to get back on the winning trail against Maud Juniors by beating the home team by 5 goals to 2, our scorers were Duncan Davidson 2 Doug Brown 1, Jim Crawford 1 and a home defender put through his own goal. Maud's goals came via a penalty when Doug Rougvie and Alex McLeish were adjudged to have impeded the centre forward. Their second goal came when Doug Rougvie was robbed of the ball by Brian Adams who found no difficulty in beating our trialist keeper to give Maud their second goal.
We had Charlie French the Formartine United goalkeeper helping us out, as John Gardiner was at Paisley with the first team. Charlie was an able deputy. Alex McLeish and Andy Watson our ground staff boys also played and turned in good performances. Also playing for the last half hour was Andy Dornan one of our S signings. Andy, who is only 14 years old, gave a very competent performance, and seems to have a bright future.
Jim Crawford who hasn't been playing well in recent games returned to something like his old form and capped a sound display with a well taken goal. Ian Gibson who, like his pal Jim, has been struggling to find his real form turned in a good performance and was probably the most skilful performer on view. Jocky Scott captain for the night received a leg knock early in the game, but it did not stop him from being a menace to the Maud defence.
Over all it was an entertaining game played on a good pitch, and handled very competently by John Young whom many Junior officials consider one of the best referees in Junior football. It was good to see Dougie Milne the Maud coach playing as well as ever and he has a fine bunch of players around him, who I'm sure will bring Maud the same success as they had in their amateur days.
