Forfar Athletic 2 - 0 Aberdeen

Scottish Reserve League East

23/10/1978 | KO: 19:30

Forfar beat us by two goals to nil in a gale swept Station Park. Unfortunately it had to be big John Clark who was with us at Pittodrie last season who scored both of the local team's goals. With the 1st team playing in Cammy Murray's benefit match at Arbroath, and one or two injuries, we were forced to field a very young and inexperienced team.
We had Ian Mathieson and John Hewitt from Hilton School, plus George Middleton from Hazelhead Academy playing for us and all three showed considerable promise. Dave Mackenzie the Lewis United goalkeeper was our trialist. He had many fine saves and if the occasion arises when we need a goalkeeper I'll have no hesitation in calling on Dave. We had chances to score but again our strikers were void of ideas on how to put the ball in the net. Neil Simpson was by far our best player. His work rate combined with skill was unbelievable for a lad who is only sixteen years old. That was our second defeat in the Angus League, but results are not that important, it is the fact that the young players are getting valuable experience that counts.
