Aberdeen 2 - 0 Celtic

THE Young Dons have chalked up another two good wins, beating Arbroath A at Gayfield and Celtic A at Pittodrie to consolidate their third place in the Reserve League.
The Arbroath victory was easily gained, and the experience-laden Dons should have scored more than three times. Jim Hermiston, Eddie Thomson, Ian Hair and Billy Pirie were included in the side, but it was Jim Henry who took the eye in both games. He scored two tremendous goals at Gayfield, and against Celtic he was the man who controlled the play from the Aberdeen point of view, taking over the role left by the promotion of John Craig. On present form Jim must be knocking at the first team door.
Perhaps the most significant improvement in the reserves' play has been the tightening up of the defence. Noel Ward has been impressive and Jim Crawford is back in form, but it was teenage Neil Cooper who was the defensive star against Celtic. He operated as the spare man at the back, and dealt confidently with all that came his way from the experienced Jimmy Bone and Vic Davidson.
Although still suffering from the rib knock he took against Keith some weeks ago Andy Geoghegan twice kept a clean sheet. The goals against Celtic A came from Duncan Davidson and George Campbell. The Fort William youngster's effort was a cracker and must have given his morale a boost for the mid-week visit to Denmark with the Scottish youth team.
