Aberdeen 3 - 1 Morton

ABERDEEN returned to winning form on Saturday, when they defeated Morton 3-1 at Pittodrie. It was one of the best games the Dons have played this season, and their victory has lifted them from seventh to fourth place on the League table.
Three points still separate Aberdeen from the joint leaders, Rangers and Motherwell, but relatively the Pittodrie team are only a point behind Motherwell.
Rangers consolidated their position at the top with a 5-0 victory over Hamilton, and to Queen of the South fell the distinction of being the only team to win away from home. One of the best performances of the day was Celtic's draw at Easter Road. Clyde go on improving and defeated Hearts at Shawfield, while Falkirk and Kilmarnock also recorded good wins.
In B Division Dundee, who beat Cowdenbeath by five clear goals, reign supreme.

There was a vast difference between Aberdeen on Saturday and the team which suffered three defeats in succession. Against Morton they displayed that great fighting spirit which, prior to the Ibrox defeat, took them to the top of the League. They could do nothing wrong, and had it not been for a great display by McFeat in the Morton goal, the score in favour of the Dons would have been much larger.
The defence was very steady. Johnstone was always confident in goal, Cooper and McKenna sound backs. The half-backs were at the top of their form. Taylor had no superior as a wing-half, Dunlop was back to his best, and Bremner was effective in his constructive work.
The attack was clever, fast and powerful. Armstrong led the line with his old-time dash and ability. He opened the scoring, and Driver, who had the other two goals, was the outstanding inside forward afield. Baird, although not up to his usual standard, revealed cleverness. Pattillo, at outside right for the day in place of Kiddie, had a grand first half, while Williams troubled the visiting defence a good deal.
Morton are a clever team, but they lacked the dash and finishing power of the Dons.
