Aberdeen 'A' Get A Shock

On Wednesday 28th August 1935 Aberdeen sent a team to play Locos at Harlaw Park in a benefit match for 3 Locos' players: Norman Law (who had been Captain for the previous 9 years), Henry "Corker" Ross, and Wattie Young. They had served Locos for 10, 12 and 13 years respectively. Law played 6 consecutive seasons without missing a single game!
The score was Inverurie Locos 5 Aberdeen 2. Gordon Whyte, Locos' centre forward, scored 4. I have no record of the teams or the other scorers.
The match was attended by "a large crowd" and the "gate" was £30. Each player was presented with a gift from Provost Taylor.

Inverurie Locos Win Benefit Game.

Inverurie Loco. Works put up a fine performance at Harlaw Park last night when they soundly defeated Aberdeen A. The game was a benefit game for three Loco. Works players - Law, Ross and Young.

Aberdeen A kicked-off before a large attendance. Devine tried a long shot, but McDougall was not to be caught napping. Locos_were eager, but Aberdeen's speed was much in evidence.
Newman at inside right for the Dons had a great chance, but Gowans kicked the ball from his toe. At the other end, Whyte had a good try which went wide.
Back came the Dons and McDougall knocked down and cleared a great shot from Scott. A nice slip from Wattie, from which Daun tried a header, flew over the crossbar by inches. In another attack by the Locos, Westland punched a great shot over the bar.

Gavin in Form.

The Dons' defence was in great form, especially Gavin at centre-half. After thirty minutes' play Wattie took a loose ball and headed to Whyte, who had no difficulty in opening Locos.' account. The Dons were now all out, but shooting from long range was of no avail.
After three minutes' play in the second-half the visitors equalised through Newman, and four minutes later Wattie added a second for the Locos. Buchan came away on the right and gave Whyte an easy chance to add a third for the homesters, but the visitors added another goal after twenty minutes through Scott.
Ten minutes later the Locos, got a fourth through Whyte after a good solo run. The crowd were in great glee when Whyte added a fifth.
