Aberdeen 2 - 0 Hamilton

Played at Pittodrie, Aberdeen. Aberdeen had the better of play during the first quarter of an hour, and at the outset they almost opened the score from a cross by Soye. Lennie had a magnificent try, but the ball rebounded off the post. Aberdeen continued the pressure, which culminated in a smartly taken goal by Travers. Aberdeen began the second half keenly, Main getting away. Watson conceded a corner to save further disaster. Aberdeen broke away, Soye leading the field with the ball at his foot, and scored off the run. Play was rather rough, from keenness rather than intention. The visitors tried hard to reduce the leeway, but failed to beat King. Result:- Aberdeen, 2; Hamilton,0.

Aberdeen did quite three-fourths of the pressing at Pittodrie on Saturday afternoon, and fully deserved their 2-0 win over Hamilton Academicals. It was a match in which there was little really fine football, but any there was undoubtedly came from the home side. The opposition played the spoiling game to perfection, and the result was a hard and interesting, yet by no means pretty, contest. Main made the most of his reinstatement, and was the most outstanding man on the field. All through the forwards were good, but there was an absence of that sustained effort on the part of a made-line which tells a tale in both offence and defence, and particularly in pushing home an attack. McConnell made a favourable impression. The Iraqis played fast, rushing football, with no cohesion.

Aberdeen had the advantage of the sun in the first half. McNeill scored the goal of the match very early, only to have it rubbed off for an offside infringement by a colleague. The Hamilton left-winger finished up a lot of sand-dancing by letting go of beauty from the 20 yards line. It beat King all the way. It took the locals half-an-hour to score, travers diverting a fast cross from the right high into the net. This was all up to the interval, following which Main and his wingers - particularly Soye and Walker - well as aggressive as ever. The centre was always in the eye of the crowd, and he had the hardest of lines in not doing something on his own. Time and again he had the opposing defence in a knot. As it was, he had a say in the second and last point, the right wing in a scrimmage following a beautiful cross from his foot bundling the leather through. In the closing minutes spasmodic rushes by the visitors looked dangerous, with Andersen and Rippon missing hope and goals.
