Pirie Paves The Way

It was fine to get off to a good start in the League Cup against our old Celtic who were a much changed team from last season. They were a young team and deserve a lot of credit for playing good football and making it an entertaining game for the spectators.
Andy Geoghegan was as safe as usual and his long clearances was causing panic in the visitors defence. Bobby Glennie and John Hather were a pair of splendid full backs who got assistance from Noel Ward and Neil Cooper when they required it. Noel had a very good game because he did the easy thing, he tackled well and cleared his lines and did not indulge in any fancy work. He left that to Gibson, Henry and Wilson who are the skilful players in the side. Our two front men Pirie and McMaster also showed a lot of skill plus hard work and if they can keep it up they will be knocking at the first team door. Both of them showed that they can take a chance and with a bit of luck they could have had more than one goal each.
Big Walker McCall is a slow starter but once he gets into his stride, he will be a great asset to the team. Bobby Street and Ernie Drews played their part when they came on. Ian Wilson was feeling the pace of the game plus the fact Ernie was fed up sunbathing on the beach. We've set a standard of good play and the only way we can keep it up is by working hard at training and on the field.
