Fraserburgh 1 - 9 Aberdeen

Please be advised that due to a break in SPFL U20 fixtures, the following friendly match was organised:

Fraserburgh 1 v 9 (nine) Aberdeen U20s

The Dons opening the scoring on 11 minutes. Scott McKenna hit a long shot from about 30 yards which the Fraserburgh keeper will feel he should maybe have done a little bit better with. Then on 18 minutes Andrew Considine headed home an excellent cross from Jamie Masson. On the half hour mark Lawrence Shankland scored the first of his four goals. He headed in at the back post from a Duguid cross. Three minutes later he added a second after being set up by Storie and on 37 minutes he grabbed his hat-trick with a great individual effort. He went on a good run and be a couple of defenders before hammering a shot into the top corner. Then on the stroke of half time another wonderful goal, Jamie Masson, making it six with a great free kick.

After the break Neil Cooper make a double substitution on 63 minutes, Storie and Masson were replaced by Gibbons and Campanile. Two minutes later it was 7-0, Marcus Campanile netting only a few minutes after coming on. Alan O'Sullivan played a good through ball for the goal. The home side pulled one back on 66 minutes, Grant Noble scoring. Alan O'Sullivan hit the post before Lawrence Shankland netted his 4th of the evening on 81 minutes, substitute Scott Wright with the assist. Scott Ferries completed the scoring with a minute to go.

Neil Cooper told RedWeb "We organised the game for people like Craig Duguid, Matthew McMahon and Scott Ferries who have not had that much game time recently and the three of them did really well. Scott got his goal at the end and he deserved it as he played very well wide on the right.

"We were quite fortunate with the first goal so that gave us a little break but some of the goals after that were fantastic. Craig Storie and Jamie Masson linked up well before Andrew Considine produced an excellent header. Lawrence Shankland was very impressive and scored four goals. His third was a great strike into the top corner and Jamie Masson's free kick was curled into the top hand corner.

"Although we won 9-1 we had to work very hard and credit to the Fraserburgh lads who never gave up. Our players did really well in terms of keeping the tempo high so it was a really good work out.

"I was pleased for Lawrence. He was frustrated with the chance he missed against Celtic but all strikers miss chances and it is how you recover from them that is important. Don't dwell on it because if you keep getting in the right positions and you work hard the chances will come along again. Lawrence has shown during his time here that he is a very good finisher and technically he is very good. Tonight will do a lot for his confidence. He linked up very well with Alan O'Sullivan this evening. They looked a good combination.

"Tonight showed that we have a very good squad. That is why we let a couple of boys go out of loan. Scott Rumsby and Stephen O'Neill have done really well for us in recent years and going out on loan will be a great experience and a chance for them to go and play at a higher level. We know though that whoever comes in will do a good job for us this season."
