Aberdeen 'A' Wins Again

By a somewhat sensational win at Muirton over St Johnstone A, the Aberdeen reserves have taken third place on the Alliance table. After last week's poor show, and bearing in mind the home lot were composed mostly of first team players it was hardly expected that Aberdeen A would win.
But they did, and all thanks to Yorston. Well into the second half they were down 3-1, even although play was fairly level. Yorston had been the mainspring of the attack and had headed a fine goal, but he was rampant in the closing stages and scored two fine goals to complete his "hat-trick." Then just on time Falloon sent home a great shot and two points were brought back to Pittodrie.
The reserves were none too reassuring, and Blackwell had several anxious moments. The second goal might have been saved, as it was actually deflected into the net by Muir. The two backs were allowed little peace the whole afternoon, but the half-backs were more improved. Falloon, at right half, was here, there, and everywhere against Stevenson and Nicholson, a former first eleven wing, and he made an enterprising little half-back.
The forwards, too, were better, despite the fact that they had a strong defence to beat. Wilson, McFarland, and Yorston played well, if at times the play of the line as a whole was a trifle uncertain. It was a good game, with a most unexpected conclusion.

At Muirton Park, Aberdeen "A" scored their fourth successive victory, when they defeated St Johnstone "A" by the odd goal in seven in an Alliance League fixture. It was only a great burst near the finish that enabled the Pittodrie team to come away with both points.
End to end play marked the opening, but Aberdeen were first to be dangerous, McFarlane hitting the crossbar. The homesters pressed vigorously and forced four corners, but the Aberdeen defence was giving nothing away. In another Saints' attack shot by Fraser hit the crossbar, rebounded to Muir's head, and from there into the net. With forty minutes gone St Johnstone increased their lead through Main, but close on the interval Yorston opened Aberdeen's account.
Aberdeen began where they left off, and Macpherson did well to hold a shot by Yorston. The visitors pressed for a time, but ultimately play swung to the other end, where Nicholson almost increased the Saints' lead. A few minutes later Stevenson hit the, woodwork, and from the rebound Main added a third goal for the homesters. Then came the Aberdeen revival. From a nice cross by Wilson Yorston scored, and a few minutes later the same player netted the equaliser and completed his "hat trick." Just on the final whistle Falloon gained possession from a throw in and scored the winning goal with a great effort.
