Aberdeen 3 - 0 Queen of the South

Victory by three goals to nil over the Queen of the South reserve team in a Scottish Alliance match at Pittodrie Park, Aberdeen, on Saturday afternoon, did not flatter the Aberdeen reserves. Had they won by a bigger margin it not have been against the run of play. Even while playing against a boisterous wind in the first half they accounted for most of the attacking, but, thanks to the weak finishing of the Aberdeen forwards, the Queen of the South retired at the interval with a goalless draw to their credit. Then with the following wind the home team almost completely monopolised the play, and when the visitors did make visits to the Aberdeen goal their shooting was woefully weak.
Aberdeen's first goal fell to Love. Duncan placed a free kick outside the penalty area to the head of Forbes, and the centre-forward nodded the ball to Love, who, lying unmarked, had no difficulty in netting. It was a clever goal, but a cleverer was to follow. Bruce, who had caused the Queen of the South goalkeeper much anxiety during the game, gained possession in midfield, and, dribbling the ball within twenty yards of the goal, he shot the ball high into the net. Just as spectacular was the point notched by McLeod. The inside left found himself in possession about thirty yards out, and did not hesitate to shoot, the ball passing into the net just wide of the outstretched Copland.
Aberdeen played well as a team in the second half. The forwards shot much more effectively than in the opening forty-five minutes, and of a good quintette Bruce was best. In the rear Cosgrove was a tower of strength, while McHale played quite well. McSevich did not Inspire confidence in the opening stages, but later he played a sound game. About 5000 spectators witnessed the game.
