Aberdeen 'A' For Semi Final

Aberdeen were lucky to secure victory by the only goal of the match over Heart of Midlothian A in a third round tie of the Scottish Second Eleven Cup at Pittodrie Park. It gave satisfaction to 5000 spectators that the goal was obtained by new player W. K. Jackson, at inside left, the Vale of Leven's captain having been transferred north during the week. Heart of Midlothian had the greater share of the play in the remainder of the half, and Blackwell saved numerous dangerous shots volleyed from the right wingers, White and Welsh, while the left wingers, Murphy and Black, and Kerr at centre, were also persistent triers. In the second half Aberdeen played with only ten men, Edward retiring at the interval with a sprained foot. Dogged defence under difficulties enabled Aberdeen to retain the advantage secured six minutes after the start of the match.

By a goal scored in the first five minutes by W. K. Jackson, Aberdeen's latest acquisition, the Aberdeen reserves qualified for the semi-final round of the Scottish Second XI. Cup competition at the expense of Hearts "A" at Pittodrie Park, Aberdeen, on Saturday. Only by their second half display, however, did they merit a win, for Hearts had much the better of the exchanges in the first half. They played much the better football in this period, and the Aberdeen goal had a series of miraculous escapes. Midway through the game the home team were lucky to be ahead. They more than made up the leeway in the second half, however, despite the fact that they played minus the services of Edwards, Grant falling back to the right half position, and filling the berth successfully. Seldom did Hearts look like scoring in this half, for Aberdeen were almost constantly in the vicinity of Gilfillan. The pressure, however, brought out the best that was in Crossan and Wilson, and those two old stagers gave a superb display of defensive work. They were a big stumbling block in the path of the Aberdeen forwards, for they covered up beautifully, leaving few openings. Nevertheless, Gilfillan had to save several testing shots from Bruce, Pirie, Forbes, and Jackson.
