Aberdeen 0 - 1 Rangers

What should have been most attractive Alliance fixture at Pittodrie - Aberdeen "A" v. Rangers "A" - was completely spoiled by the stormy weather. A biting north wind blew throughout the afternoon, and with it, for most the first period, when the homesters faced the elements, discomfiting drizzle. The Light Blues won by the only goal scored, and they were quite worth the points and rather more than the margin. Absentees from their side were Ireland (right half) and Lawson (outside left), and the shifting of Nicholson from the position of pivot to fill the former's shoes robbed the game of some interest from the local point view.
With the storm behind them in the first half, the visitors did far the most of the pressing. Nicholson scored halfway through the period, the ball coming out to him from the goalmouth after a corner, and he gave Cunningham no chance. Both before after that, Hansen had terrific drives, which only the woodwork saved. The centre was clever, and, with Craig and McDonald, gave the home defence all through a lot of worry. The wing men were but so-so.
In the second period, the locals were seen to more advantage, but their attack appeared to lack punch, and very seldom did the resourceful Glasgow halves and backs allow a shot at Hamilton. Paton, late of Celtic and Third Lanark, at Inside right, was noticeable for judicious parting, and Forbes was the pick of the bunch when it came to marksmanship. He had a couple of beautiful tries.
An indication of the run of the game has been given. Against a fast-moving attack, with crafty and resourceful inside men, Thomson and Bruce put in a good afternoon's work. Edwards, the Banff centre-half, was better in defence in the first period than later when he had constructive opportunities. He was up against an inside trio of First League standard, and could scarcely have had a more severe test. Armstrong was perhaps the best local half. On the other side, the mid line was strong and resourceful, as were the backs. Nicholson did well. The Ibrox reserves are a clever lot.
