Must Win at Firhill
The Dons are now set the task of winning at Firhill to ensure entry into the knock-out competition, for Hibs have a home game against Kilmarnock. Unfortunate is the word to apply to the Dons in their defeat by the odd goal in five at Easter Road. Aberdeen put up great fight against terrific odds. The Aberdeen defence emerged with great credit. Henderson, apart from his error of judgment in coming out when Hibs got their second point, gave a grand display goal. McKenna never flinched, and Taylor, even when playing back for the injured Cowie, distinguished himself. Dunlop was a great centre-half, and Pattillo was a tremendous worker. George Hamilton was brilliant in the first half-hour, Strauss made an excellent come-back, but Williams was seldom in the picture. Baird was a worker, but McCall operated in too many positions to be a success in any of them. Hibs were value for their success under the circumstances. Gordon Smith must now be a strong candidate for a place in the Scottish team at outside-left. Milne (2) and Weir were Hibs' scorers, and Balrd and Cowie counted for Aberdeen. Only Rangers are certain qualifiers in "A" Division, and Dundee will go through goal avarage alone in "B"' Division.Source: Press & Journal, 25th March 1946
