Dons Out of Mitchell Cup

The football season, so far as Aberdeen are concerned, is finished, yet, if the Dons had accepted their chances in the first half at Kirkcaldy, where they were beaten by the odd goal in three by Raith Rovers, they would have been meeting Rangers in the final of the League Cup.

The Dons played grand football before the interval and should have led at half-time by more than the great goal registered by Pattillo.
Wallbanke on one occasion failed to count from five yards' range, and Buchan also ought to have scored. These were the most glaring blunders.
Disaster befell the Dons in the second period. Waldron's equaliser, all against the run of play, came as the result of hesitancy on the part of an Aberdeen defender. Following this, Ancell was injured and retired from the game. To add to the Dons' misfortunes, Dunlop became a casualty, and was limping badly when Ventre got the winning goal Dunlop retired ten minutes from time, and the Dons finished the game with nine men.
Johnstone, the Aberdeen goalkeeper, earned full marks. Cooper was slow, while Ancell defended well before his injury. All three half-backs were at the top their form, but only Pattillo and Wallbanks impressed in attack.
