A late screamer from Nicky Low gave Aberdeen a 3-2 victory over Hearts at Balgownie. It was a depleted Aberdeen side that faced up to Hearts. The Dons were without six regulars but despite this they were able to beat an experienced Hearts team for the second time this season. The Edinburgh side included the son of former AFC player Steve Cowan.
Hearts, with a strong wind at their backs, started strongly and deservedly went ahead on 19 minutes through Wallace. Hearts continued to press so it was slightly against the run of play when Aberdeen equalised. Nicky Clark did very well and won the ball then played in Hansson who finished well.
On 37 minutes Aberdeen were dealt a blow when Nicky Clark had to be substituted after being concussed. He was replaced by 15 year old Jack Grimmer who was making his first appearance at U19 level. After 41 minutes, poor defending allowed Hearts to regain the lead. Wallace set up Novikovas who beat Bain. At half time Clark Robertson, another of the Development players in the squad, came on for O'Donnell. It only took two minutes for the Dons to equalise after the break. Robertson set up McRobbie who beat his defender and scored.
Aberdeen played much better after the break and had a number of chances to take the lead, Low twice and Grimmer just failing to score. At the other end Hearts also had a few chances in what was a very entertaining second half.
In injury time, just when it looked like the game would finish 2-2, Nicky Low made up for his earlier misses and scored the winner. Gallacher took a quick throw in to Low. Young Nicky turned brilliantly and fired a shot from the edge of the box into the keeper's top right hand corner, a stunning goal. Even then Hearts had another chance to score but Bain saved well getting down low to his right. In the final few minutes Grimmer was replaced by Masson after receiving a heavy knock. Despite their age, both Grimmer and Robertson looked very impressive.

Neil Cooper spoke to RedWeb after the game. "It was a very good win against a strong Hearts side. We were poor in the first half and gave away a couple of bad goals from our point of view. Although it was a very young team and when we were facing the wind I still expected us to play better than that. In the second half though the boys played very well. I was very happy with their efforts. The young lads who came in did a great job for us today."
