Young Dons leave it late against Pars

A late winner from Brian Neill was enough for the young Dons to earn a narrow win against Dunfermline this afternoon. The match was played on plastic a pitch at the Garthdee Sports Complex after thee poor weather conditions over the last week had made it difficult to find a grass pitch. It was tough for both sides as they had to battle in difficult windy conditions. Dunfermline got to grips with the conditions a lot better than the home side and proved to be the better team in the first half as they created a few chances. The Dons improved In the second half had three or four good chances with Bruce Paton McVitie and Maguire all going close with some decent efforts. Maguire being particularly unlucky with a shot that was cleared from the Dunfermline goal line. The Dons also had a penalty claim turned down when Bruce was brought down just as he was set to pull the trigger.
Just as the game looked to be heading for a goalless draw the Dons got a dramatic late winner. Brian Neill picked the ball up 25 yards out, drove inside before hitting a superb shot into the top corner.

Redweb caught up with Neil Cooper after the match for his reaction: "As a rule we don't like to play on artificial surfaces but with the bad weather in recent weeks we were struggling to find a pitch and we were very keen to get the game on as we did not want to miss any more fixtures.

"It is a different game on a plastic surface but to be fair to Dunfermline they handled the conditions better in the first half. Thankfully we got in at half-time at 0-0 and had the advantage of the wind in the second.

"We played a lot better in the second period and created 3 or 4 good chances. Credit to the boys for fighting till the end and getting a good result. It was a great goal to win any game."
