Reserves title hopes dented by steelmen

Aberdeen's SPL reserve league title hopes took a severe dent at Links Park today where Sandy Clark's men were soundly beaten by the Steelmen and, with Celtic defeating Livingston 3-2, the Dons drop to second.

After a scoreless first period, in which Well keeper Graeme Smith dived at the feet of John Stewart in the best chance of the half, the visitors took the lead in the 52nd minute when Kenneth CONNOLLY tapped in from close range.

Four minutes later Steven McGarry played the ball to David CLARKSON to fire home and with a couple of minutes remaining, the same two combined again, this time Clarkson providing the pass for McGARRY to finish.

Twice during the second half, there were strong penalty claims for the Dons when Stewart was bundled over by Smith but on each occasion, referee Cheyne waved play on.
