young dons suffer defeat

The young Dons suffered a 3-2 defeat this afternoon at the hands of a strong Celtic side.

The opening goal came in just the 2nd minute from Kyle MACAULAY after some good play from Willie John Kiely. Aberdeen doubled their lead in the 9th minute when Donnelly had a shot from the edge of the box which the Celtic keeper saved but couldn?t keep hold onto the ball and Willie John KIELY was there to follow it up.

In the 33rd minute the Celtic keeper crucially made a triple save to deny the Dons a three goal advantage. Russell Omond was called into action five minutes later and made a fine save to ensure Aberdeen went into the break two goals up.

Celtic came out after half time looking the livelier team and pulled a goal back in the 52nd minute when Chris Maguire put the ball into the back of his own goal. Celtic's second goal came four minutes later after Aberdeen failed to clear the ball out of their area and McGlinchey took advantage. Poor defending was again to blame for Celtic's 3rd goal and this time Finnbogason was there to score the winner.

Aberdeen had two good chances to draw level, Kyle Macaulay put the ball into the side netting after some good link up play from McInnes and Thomson. Several minutes later Chris Maguire was one on one with the keeper but his shot was blocked.

After the game Neil Cooper spoke to RedWeb:
"It was pleasing to go into half-time with a 2-0 lead but we knew the game wasn't finished as they had a couple of good chances which forced Russell Omond to make a good save. It was good to get Grant Fraser and Ashley McInnes back playing as they have both been injured for quite some time. I think we will see the best of this team next season as they are a young side compared to others in the league."
