Three and easy for Dons

Aberdeen had a comfortable win at Elgin as they continue their pre season preparation. Rick Foster grabbed the opener before the interval as he latched on to a great reverse pass from Mackie. Mackie then grabbed a goal for himself after the interval before Adams grabbed his second in as many matches to put the Dons on easy street. With two wins under the belt the Dons now head for Holland for some stiffer opposition.

Aberdeen made a bright start to the match and won a couple of corners in the opening minutes. They were unable to capitalise on the chances and Elgin carved out their first opportunity in the 5th minute when Hartley went close with a free kick. Three minutes later Morrison hit a fierce shot inches wide of the target before Esson was tested by a dipping effort from Cummings. Elgin carved out another chance in the 12th minute when Reid went close as the Dons back four of McNaughton, Hart, Diamond and Morrison looked a little unsteady.

Aberdeen went close again in the 22nd minute when Mackie flicked on a Tosh cross and Muirhead just failed to connect at the back post. It was Mackie who was provider as the Dons took the lead a minute later. A great reverse pass by Darren released Foster and he calmly slotted the ball past the keeper. Clark was once again looking impressive and he won a corner in the 27th minute. Mackie headed the set play inches wide of the target and on the half hour mark Foster almost added a second after being released by Tosh. Unfortunately his first touch let him down allowing the keeper to gather.

The Dons were well in control now and Clark hit a fierce volley over the bar in the 35th minute before both team had a goal disallowed. Elgin's was chalked off in the 38th minute for hand ball and following good build up play from Foster and Muirhead, Mackie was adjudged offside as he headed a Morrison cross into the onion bag. Four minutes before the break Elgin were denied an equaliser when McNaughton cleared a Keczen header off the line.

As the second half started the Dons instantly moved up a gear and had doubled their lead within two minutes of the restart. Muirhead set up Mackie and he showed great composure to coolly rounded the keeper before stroking the ball into the net. Seven minutes later Mackie was again involved as the Dons added a third. Renton took the Dons striker down to concede a spot kick. It looked like he had made amends when he dived low to block Adams effort, but the new signing reacted quickly to net the rebound.

Pirie replaced Renton and the young keeper made three fantastic saves in the space of a few minutes to keep the score down. Firstly Muirhead set up Mackie to produce the first stop then he quickly followed this up with fine saves from Tosh and Mackie again. Tosh went close with a free kick in the 66th minute then four minutes later Mackie beat the offside trap and set up Foster. Unfortunately his left foot shot scraped wide of the target. Controversy followed in the 77th minute when Mackie scored a spectacular diving header only to be frustrated by an offside flag.

A minute later Bagshaw replaced Adams and received a huge reception from the travelling support. Stewart almost added a fourth in the 87th minute, but watched in agony as his effort was cleared off the line. McNaughton followed up and fired the ball wide of the target. A minute later Esson got his first touch of the second half, such had been the Dons dominance, when he comfortably held a long range effort from McKenzie.
