Aberdeen have finished the season as the best placed team in the bottom half of the SPL, despite a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Dundee United. The Tannadice club got off to the perfect start, when they opened the scoring after just 4 minutes. Their Greek internation VENETIS finding space in the Don's defence and firing home to make it 1-0. Aberdeen's misery got worse in the 16th minute, when DEREK LILLEY struck home after ex-Don Jim Hamilton knocked the ball down for him.
Robbie Winters and Derek Young both came close to pulling one back in the remainder of the first half, but they couldn't break down the visitor's defence. Aberdeen came close in the 50th minute with good play from Darren Young and Arild Stavrum, but the eventual shot was cleared off the line by the United defence.
ARILD STAVRUM played well throughout and finally broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute to put the pressure on United. Aberdeen introduced youngsters Darren Michie and Ross O'Donoghue, and O'Donoghue came close to equalising twice, with two good long range efforts. Despite Aberdeen coming into the game in the last ten minutes, they couldn't find a way back into the game, and United ran out 2-1 winners.
