Young Dons break Hearts

Aberdeen U19s got the season off to a flyer with a 3-1 win over Hearts at Balgownie. Despite the visitors looking the stronger in the early stages, the young Dons took the lead through Stephen Tarditi. Aberdeen then went two goals up with John Stewart continuing his goal-scoring form from the end of last season. Just as it looked as though the Dons were in control, Hearts broke and pulled a goal back just before the interval.

In the second half Aberdeen were much the better team and deservedly re-established their two goal lead when John Stewart grabbed his second. The young forward could easily have had a hat-trick but missed a number of subsequent chances.

Afterwards Neil Cooper spoke to Redweb, "It was a really good win as Hearts always have a strong side at this level. They started off the better team, which was to be expected as we had a very young side playing. But we came more and more into the game and scored some great goals. It was really encouraging to see how the experienced players like Hutton, Buckley and Diamond helped the younger lads in the team. The performance certainly bodes well for the rest the season."
