Dundee Dump Dons

The Dons slumped to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of an impressive Dundee, with youngster Phillip McGuire sent-off in the 90th minute. Aberdeen were denied two clear-cut penalty claims, the first coming in the 9th minute when Darren Mackie's pace beat the Dee defence, and he was upended in the area, only to have his penalty claim waved away. The game could have gone either way in the opening half an hour, but in the 28th minute, Dundee's player manager Ivano Bonetti chipped Ryan Esson to make it 1-0 to the visitors. Aberdeen had two great chances to equalise just minutes later, when Guntveidt found himself with two brilliant chances, only to squander them both. The Norwegian fired his first shot wide, and second over. Just before half-time, Dundee brought on Argentinian star Claudio Cannigia, and his every touch was cheered by the visitors. However, the Dons defence did well in containing him for the majority of the match. In the 60th minute, Derek Whyte was booked for upending the ex-Boca Juniors and Roma star, and just a minute later Dundee were down to ten men when Scot Gavin Rae was sent off. With 15 minutes remaining, Mackie looked certain to have gained a penalty after being brought down in the area, but once again the Dons claims were waved away. The referee awarded four minutes of stoppage time at the end, and in the first minute, Phil McGuire was given his marching orders, moments later Cannigia grabbed a debut goal to make it 2-0 to Dundee.
