Rampant Dons win at Tannadice

The Dons picked up all three points this afternoon after an amazing eight goal thriller at Tannadice. The final score of 5-3 was a reflection on a brilliant Dons performance, marred only by the sending off of Darren Young in 60 minutes for a cynical challange on ex-Don Jamie Buchan and the loss of two late United goals. Aberdeen got off to the best possible start when Robbie Winters' deflected strike found the back of the United net.The goal came just one minute after the Dons had a penalty claim turned down. Ten minutes later, Winter's grabbed his second. Chris Clark played an inch perfect cross to Winters, and the ex-Dundee United man despatched it past Alan Combe.
Winters nearly got his hat-trick in the 25th minute, but his long range effort went just wide. In the 29th minute, good work from Winters helped Derek Young find an opportunity, and the youngster hit it well, scoring past Combe. The first real Dons chance in the second half fell once again to Winters, but his effort was cleared off the line by ex-Don Stephen Wright. Just five minutes later, the Dons were down to ten men, after Darren Young's challange on Jamie Buchan, and minutes later United's hopes of a comeback were raised when Chris Clark was penalised for a tackle on McQuilan, although replays show that no contact was made. Craig Easton converted the penalty to make it 3-1.
Aberdeen were nearly gifted a fourth goal when Alan Combe almost put the ball in his own net, and Winters came close once again just a minute later. In the 83rd minute, Combe brought down Dons substitute Darren Mackie in the box, and Robbie Winters converted the spot-kick to claim his hat-trick. Steven McConalogue made it 4-2 with a goal for United in the 85th minute, and David Hannah gave the Dons a late scare with a 90th minute goal. With two minutes of stoppage time gone, Eoin Jess scored a superb goal to put the game beyond doubt to earn the Dons a great 5-3 win and 3 SPL points
