Dons Well Beaten at Ibrox

It was never going to be easy for Aberdeen, travelling to Ibrox for the first game of the 2nd half of the season, and that theory was proved when the league leaders ran out 5-0 victors in a one sided affair. The Dons put up a brave fight for the first half an hour, but it all went pear shaped in the final 15 minutes of the first half. Australian defender Craig Moore opened the scoring in the 36th minute when he powered home a Giovanni van Bronckhorst corner, and the heads seemed to go down from then on. Within two minutes the Dutchman turned from provider to scorer with number two, before Arthur Numan grabbed a rare goal to make it 3-0 at half-time.

The second half started as the first had ended, with constant pressure from the home side. Rod Wallace came close to scoring, but he failed to pull the trigger at the vital moment. He did however grab a goal to end his drought midway through the half, to make it 4-0 to Rangers.
It was basically shooting practice from then on in for the Champions, and Barry Ferguson grabbed a well-deserved goal in the 80th minute. It was a disappointing performance from the Dons, and the result signalled their worst ever showing against the Ibrox side in the Premier League.

In an afternoon best forgotten, Jim Leighton pulled off several world class stops, whilst the back four of Perry, Anderson, Whyte and McAllister plugged away manfully. Up front Hicham Zerouali ploughed a lone furrow for the most part, although it was a day when luck was most definitely not on his side.
