In an even opening spell Aberdeen carved out the best chance in the 5th minute when Hinds released Mike. Hutchison did well to block the shot, but Mike looped the rebound over the keeper. Unfortunately the second attempt landed on the roof of the net denying the Dons the opener. This was to prove costly when Hibs went ahead in the 11th minute when a Tiernan slip allowed Riordan to hit the bye line and Arpinon was on hand to fire home the cut back.
Aberdeen created several chances to get back on terms but found Hutchison in fine form. The young keeper turned a Mackie effort round the post in the 17th minute and denied the same player with a good block in the 23rd minute. In between these two efforts, Mike had the ball in the net, but was ruled offside. Hutchison was finally beaten in the 35th minute when Hinds beat the offside trap to burst through on the right. The ex-Clyde man picked out Michie in the centre and he was left with a simple tap in from six yards. Mike almost put the Dons ahead a minute later when he tried to chip the keeper, but for the second time in the match he found the roof of the net.
Kjaer was then forced into a fine save a minute later as the game burst into life. Mike was looking dangerous and had a couple of chances to add to his tally. A fingertip save denied him in the 67th minute and two minutes later he steered the ball inches wide of the target. Hinds had the ball in the net in the 83rd minute, but once more the goal was chalked off for offside. Seconds later Hinds was involved in a similar tangle to that of Deloumeaux on Saturday. This time a quiet word from the referee was sufficient.
