Winchester's early goal stimulates Aberdeen

A three-minute goal by Winchester, a surprise selection at centre forward, gave Aberdeen the best possible start to last night's Scottish Cup quarter-final replay, played before a record midweek crowd for Pittodrie Park of 44,000. From that point Hibernian's fate was sealed and it was not until Munro had scored Aberdeen's third goal in 57 minutes that the Edinburgh side came into the game.
Winchester's goal, scored after a Wilson shot had been blocked, was just the urge Aberdeen needed. Their defence, in which McMillan and Petersen were outstanding, was so good that Clark, the goalkeeper, seldom had anything to do.
In attack, Aberdeen were well served by Wilson, Melrose, and Storrie, who scored the second goal from close range in 17 minutes, and the only Hibernian players to take any real credit were Stanton, Madsen, and Stein. Storrie also played a hand in the third goal, his cross from the left being headed past Allan by Munro.
