MOTHERWELL didn’t shape like a Scottish Cup-winning team at Pittodrie on Saturday. There was much to like about their play in the outfield, and Sloan and Altkenhead were a lively and dangerous pair, but the inside trio misfired.
Humphries, Kelly and Watson will have to produce more verve and dash than they did at Ptttodrle if the 'Well are to win their Cup semi-final game.
Aberdeen did not get a great deal of satisfaction from this game either. They had their brightest spell in the first half. During this period the forwards were lively but, like Motherwell's, they seemed to lose their zip near goal.

THERE was no Aberdeen player really outstanding in this department. Rodger was probably the most active of the five.
Hay did some clever things, but there were times when his lack of experience was apparent. The young inside left will undoubtedly benefit from his spell in the League side. He has the makings of a first-class inside forward.
Aberdeen can’t claim to have solved their defensive problems. The Young-Emery full back partnership fought gamely enough, but they did not possess the poise of Kilmarnock and Shaw.
Young, tenacious though he was, still does not strike me as being a better back than centre-half. Thomson was unquestionably Aberdeen's outstanding defender and their best player.
