ALEC YOUNG, who was the king pin of the Dons' defence last season, did not get much chance to settle down at full back against St Mirren. In stretching for a ball he strained his groin and played on the right wing for half an hour in the second half.
Centre-half is his natural position, but in his own words he intends to "make the best of it” at back. Young sportingly admitted to me on Saturday that Thomson is playing well at centre-half.
Young had little experience as back in junior football, but I was interested to learn that for eighteen months after he left the Services he turned out at wing half-back for Kilsyth Rangers.

THE Dons did not play well at Paisley. The forwards lacked scoring ideas.
Some of the individual work was smart enough, but the line did not move smoothly, nor was there nearly enough pep at close quarters.
More direct methods were required, particularly on the wings. Lynch, the Paisley ’keeper, was given no reason on Saturday to believe that red means danger. No bouquets for any of the Aberdeen attackers this week.
Watson’s display in goal gave no cause for anxiety and McKenna did a useful job of work at left back. Lowrie was a hard-working wing half, but Harris was hardly as aggressive as he has been in recent weeks.
The Dons mill be forgiven Saturday't failure if they finish the year with a home victory over Celtic. If they are to succeed the forwards will have to indulge in some shooting practice during the week.
