Aberdeen 3 - 1 Morton

THE Introduction of the white ball in the closing stages of the Aberdeen-Morton match at Pittodrie on Saturday appears to have been an unqualified success both from the players’ and spectators’ points of view.
George Hamilton, the Dons’ centre-forward, told me after the game that it was easier to see it in the air and on the ground in the gathering gloom, and it helped to maintain the speed of the game.
Effective and helpful, was how Mr David Halliday, the Dons’ manager, described the experiment.

LIKE the majority of spectators I found it much easier to follow the play when the white ball was in use. While this was the first time this type of ball has been used in modern times, I understand that over twenty years ago a white-painted ball was introduced in an Aberdeen junior match.
At present it not compulsory for Scottish clubs to be in possession of a white ball and only the referee has authority to introduce it. The day may not be far distant, however, when this type of ball may become part of the standard equipment of clubs and will be used regularly during the early kick-off period.

AFCHT: The most remarkable aspect of this match was that, for the first time at Pittodrie, Aberdeen played against Morton using a white football in place of the traditional brown type during the last few minutes of the game. The linesmen used lumious flags and armbands.
