Morton Now Share the Lead: Rangers Close Behind

DESPITE their failure at Falkirk, the Dons are still at the head of the Scottish League table.
But these were precious points they dropped at Brockville Park. Their position now is far less secure.
Morton, who conceded a point at Paisley, are on terms with Aberdeen again, and Rangers, narrow winners at Parkhead, are only 3 point behind with a game in hand.
It looked odds on the Dons bringing back a point from Falkirk until eleven minutes from the final whistle.
At this stage Wardlaw, the home leader, was attempting to break through when Waddell went in to tackle him. It appeared as if the Dons' centre-half nudged his opponent and the referee awarded a penalty. Fitzsimmons made no mistake from the spot.
Four minutes later McPhee placed a free kick, given against Cowie, adroitly, and Brooks headed into the net. The penalty goal really decided the issue.

Defence Rattled

Credit must be given the Falkirk team, however, for their amazing resiliency. The game was for the most part played in torrential rain on a heavy and greasy around with a skidding bail. The conditions were certainly not conducive to studied football.
There was little to choose between the teams in the opening period. If anything the Dons were a shade superior. After the interval Falkirk held the advantage. The energy and drive they displayed in the the closing twenty minutes was surprising considering the conditions.
It shook the Pittodrie defence, which, to that stage, had fought stoutly. They were definitely rattled in the closing stages.
Waddell and McKenna were inclined to get "involved" during the Falkirk revival. More than once they both went to clear the same ball.
The left-back had his hands full with J. Henderson, but honours were about even at the finish. Waddell made one mistake against centre forward Wardlaw and it was a costly one. Cowie had a good grip of Fitzsimmons.
The Pittodrie wing-halves have both been seen to better advantage. The big disappointment from the Aberdeen point view, however, was the poor display of internationalist inside forwards, Baird and Hamilton.
Neither succeeded in adapting himself to the playing conditions and consequently Harris. Williams and McCall suffered from lack of support.
