U18s end season with a draw at Celtic

The Aberdeen U18s finished their Club Academy Scotland U18 League campaign this afternoon with a 1-1 draw against Celtic at Barrowfield in the East End of Glasgow.

It was another very young Aberdeen side with Tom Ritchie, Ryan Duncan, Evan Towler and Liam Harvey all remaining at Cormack Park. Findlay Murray and Blair McKenzie also missed out through injury.

The first forty-five minutes was an even affair with few chances at either end. Celtic had more of the possession but the visitors had a number of counter attacks. Cammy Wilson and Adam Emslie both had half chances but could not produce the final touch.

Just on the stroke of half time Celtic took the lead. Aberdeen failed to put enough pressure on the ball and Daniel Kelly from about 20 yards produced a fine finish into the corner of the net.

Credit to the young Dons though, as they came out and dominated the second half.

In a turnaround from the first period, it was the home side who were producing the counter-attacks from which Jamie Shingler produced two good saves.

Eventually though Aberdeen turned their possession into chances and started to cause Celtic issues. Wilson had another opportunity and Dylan Lobban had a strike that was blocked. With about fifteen minutes to go substitute Lewis Pirie did really well to burst into the area and when he was taken down by the keeper McLean, Aberdeen had a penalty. Unfortunately Lobban missed his spot kick and hit the post.

Aberdeen kept going though and with just under ten minutes left Findlay Marshall produced an excellent strike to beat McLean and ensured Barry Robson?s young side finished the season on a positive note.

The young Dons thoroughly deserved a draw and probably did enough to win the match in the second half after dominating for a long spell.
