Aberdeen U18s produced arguably their best performance of the season this evening when they beat Motherwell 5-2 away from home.

The young Dons had lost all three previous games against the North Lanarkshire side this season, including when the sides met at Cormack Park earlier this week.

And the signs did not look good when Motherwell scored first. A cross from the right was fired home from about 14 yards. Five minutes later though Aberdeen equaliser from a corner. The ball was not cleared and as it bobbled about in the box Findlay Marshall pounced to slot the ball into the bottom right-hand corner.

The young Dons then took the lead when a superb defence splitting pass from Alfie Stewart found Liam Harvey and the striker continued his fine form by burying it nicely into the bottom left-hand corner. It was an excellently weighted pass from Alfie.

On the half hour mark Harvey added his second of the night to make it 3-1 after again confidently finishing when in a one v one situation. Liam had two goals harshly ruled out for offside on Tuesday so he deserved his goals tonight.

And before half-time it got even better for Barry Robson's side when they went 4-1 up. Cammy Wilson was taken down in the box. He went for a header and was cleaned out whilst doing so. Skipper Dylan Lobban slotted the penalty home.

After dominating the opening period, the second half was a more even affair, but the Dons added a fifth about an hour in when an Adam Emslie cross found Marshall in the box and he produced a good finish. Motherwell then scored a consolation from the penalty spot.

Another really encouraging performance with so many younger players involved.

Aberdeen travel to play title chasing Hibernian on Tuesday at the Hibs training ground before welcoming Hamilton Accies to Cormack Park next Friday.
