Galston Hopelessly Outclassed at Pittodrie
Galston secured the opening goal in the first few minutes, but Aberdeen "A" took a grip of the game and the Ayrshire men faded right out of the picture. Long before the close it seemed that several of their players had given up trying and the Young Dons found goal-scoring a comparatively simple task. The score would have been even bigger but for some fine saving by Leslie, who was poorly protected by his backs. Mair put Galston ahead in four minutes, but when Scott equalised in ten minutes the writing was on the wall. The centre-forward completed his hat-trick before the interval and a fourth goal was scored by Reid from a terrific free-kick. It was evident that the Young Dons could score practically will when the second half commenced. Devers added a cheeky fifth goal and the sixth came from Warnock. Ritchie Smith smashed home two from the left wing and a piledriver by Devers brought the score to nine. Scott's hat-trick feat was emulated by Smith, who scored the tenth goal shortly before the close.Devers Brilliant
In such a one-sided game individual criticism seems unnecessary, although the feature of the home team's play was the brilliance of Devers, who made his reappearance at Pittodrie after a long absence. He "wandered" the Galston defence time and again. Bennett, the junior East End custodian, got nothing to do, but Urquhart, signed from Hibs in mid-week, played a fine game at left-back. The junior at centre-half was not particularly outstanding, although he got through a lot work. Brown, the former Shawfield junior player, tried hard at inside-left, but he was the weakest member of the front line. Galston were best served by Leslie, Stewart, Paterson, and McGrath.
