"A" TEAM SCORE POINT DESERVEDLY.
Aberdeen gave clever display against Motherwell A in an Alliance League game at Fir Park, and a draw did justice to both teams. The Aberdeen reserves produced some sparkling forward play, but in the second period play became rather robust and several players were warned by the referee. Motherwell forced the pace at the outset but the Dons retaliated in great style, and after fine play by Johnston and Moore, Conwell smacked the ball into the net for the opening goal. It was the home team's turn now, and with the Aberdeen defence shaky under pressure it was no surprise when Wylie notched the equaliser. The young Dons had much the better attack and McArthur was kept busy but it was the other end that a goal almost came, Newman scraping ball clear with Westland beaten. There was some give and take play after the resumption, with both teams attacking in turn. McGillivray was in form for the homesters, and he had the Aberdeen A goal in jeopardy on several occasions.Missed Penalty.
On one occasion he was pulled down the penalty area but Crapnell shot over the bar from the spot. Moore put the visitors ahead after some great play by the left wing pair. McGillivray got going for Motherwell and was again fouled within the penalty area. Taking the kick himself he made no mistake. Aberdeen A were best served by their attack, and best for Motherwell A were Crapnell, Johnston, Crawley, and McGillivray.Source: Press & Journal, 17th September 1934
