Just Fail to Hold Celtic Colts at Parkhead.
Playing throughout the second half with ten men, Sharp having been injured, Aberdeen "A" gave a game display and just failed to hold Celtic "A," the Alliance League leaders to a draw at Parkhead. As it was, Murphy got the winning goal for the Celtic colts a few minutes from the end. Right from the kick-off, the game was a fast one, with Aberdeen "A" giving as good as they got, and it was no surprise when they went ahead after twenty minutes, Moore heading into the net. Their lead was short-lived, however, Dunn heading the equaliser a minute later. Celtic were top till the interval, but they were baulked by a great display by Westland, in the Young Dons' goal. Just on the interval Sharp was injured. He came out after half-time but was unable to carry on. Thus handicapped, the Aberdeen reserves were mostly on the defensive in the second period, but they held out grimly until a few minutes from time. Boyle, McStay, Divers, Dunn and Murphy were best for the young Celts, while for Aberdeen "A" Westland, Gavin, Anderson and Moore showed to advantage..Source: Press & Journal, 3rd September 1934
