Partick Thistle A Outplayed at Pittodrie.
Partick Thistle reserves were no match for Aberdeen A in the Scottish Alliance game at Pittodrie on Saturday, though it took the homesters just over forty-five minutes to break down the visitors' stubborn defence. The home side pressed almost continuously throughout the first half, but the finishing of the forwards was lamentably weak. A goal by Robertson immediately after the resumption was long overdue, and while the Firhill men subsequently showed a decided improvement, the Young Dons continued top dogs till the end. Armstrong added to the home total with a clever goal ten minutes from the finish. Aberdeen A should have secured a substantial victory, but the shooting of the forwards in the first half was deplorable. All the forwards were at fault. Individually, the home attack was clever, Robertson and Armstrong being outstanding. The home mid-line was the ace of steadiness. Donald, moved forward to right half, gave a capital display. Jackson and Sharp were equally steady at back, and while never seriously tested, Douglas Westland the young Banks o' Dee 'keeper, deputising for Cumming, inspired confidence. Thistle were best served by Gourlay in goal, both backs, and Alston and McKay forward. Hugh Baigrie, the ex-Woodside player, played well in the visitors' mid-line, which got little rest throughout the game.Source: Press & Journal, 8th January 1934
