By Odd Goal In Five

Aberdeen "A" maintained their position at the head of the Scottish Alliance League table by virtue of a narrow victory over Motherwell "A" at Pittodrie ' Park on Saturday.

The game was contested at a fast pace throughout and the Pittodrie reserves did not get matters all their own way. Early on the home team accounted for the bulk of the pressure, but their finishing was weak, and Taggart, the Motherwell goalkeeper, was not unduly troubled.
After twenty-eight minutes, however, clever play on the home left wing allowed McDermid to go through and open the scoring from close range.

Aberdeen's Second Goal.

A fierce Motherwell attack was beaten off, and Aberdeen again assumed the aggressive. After several corner kicks had been cleared, Dickie increased the Aberdeen lead by scoring a good goal from McDermid's pass, and the home team retired at the interval with a lead of two goals.
On the resumption Aberdeen soon went further ahead, Armstrong heading through a cross from Warnock.

Motherwell Rally.

Following this, play quietened down somewhat, Aberdeen apparently being content with their lead. A different aspect came, however, when Whyte scored twice for the visitors in quick succession. First he charged Cumming' over the line when the home keeper was in possession of the ball, and then he headed through a cross from Ogilvie.
This livened up matters and the last quarter hour's play was fiercely contested. Both goals ran narrow escapes, but no further scoring took place.
