Thistle Open Scoring.
Kenny was the first keeper to be in action, holding an effort by Jackson. With five minutes gone Thistle came away with a great burst and Beith collected a pass from the left, to open the scoring. Aberdeen retaliated in vigorous style and Kenny saved a stingless shot from McKenzie, and a great drive from McLeod. The home team kept up a persistent pressure, and after Merrie had hit the outside net Ray headed a corner from under the crossbar. Thistle broke away and shots by Reid and Beith were blocked. The home team looked like equalising when McKenzie dashed away on the left, but Kenny saved his shot on the post. A minute later smart work by David gave McKenzie another chance, but again Kenny saved the situation. At the other end Muir blocked a drive by Beith. and, in a counter-raid, a header by Merrie bounded over.Feeling Creeps In.
Shortly after Kenny held a great effort by Jackson. Then feeling crept into the game, and two Thistle players, Hunter and McGorm, had to go off at short intervals with injuries. During the absence of the first-named, Kenny only managed to palm out a shot by Merrie, and David, lying handy, equalised. Partick started the second half in promising fashion, and Smith in the home goal saved brilliantly from Ness and Reid. In a counter-raid by Aberdeen Merrie struck the crossbar with a header, and minutes later Kenny saved from McKenzie. Smith, the Woodside junior, showed splendid form in goal, and did well to save efforts by McGorm and Hunter.Another For Thistle.
With twenty-five minutes gone, Reid collected a cross from Hunter to again give the visitors the lead. Despite changes in the home front line, their attack could not get going, although on one occasion Kenny saved cleverly from Jackson. Although there was no further scoring, Thistle held the advantage.Source: Press & Journal, 21st October 1929
