Nine-Man Dons Crash To Defeat

Aberdeen Reserves found playing with only nine men for more than an hour too severe a handicap against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park and, not surprisingly, suffered their heaviest Premier Reserve League defeat of the season so far. After creating a couple of early scoring chances, the Pittodrie side's troubles started with only six minutes on the clock when Peter Hetherston was sent off for a second bookable offence. He was followed into the dressing room in 20 minutes by Kevin Christie, shown the red card for deliberate handling on the goal line. Kilmarnock scored from the resultant penalty kick and went on to add three further goals before the interval. The nine-men Aberdeen cut the deficit through Scott Thomson minutes after the break and fought a gallant rearguard action in the second half, but could not prevent the home side scoring again to complete a 5-1 victory.
