Last night Victoria United and Orion met at Pittodrie Park before a good attendance in the semi-final round of the Fleming Charity Shield. The teams were:- Victoria United: R. Murray; Craig, McHardy; R. Ritchie, A. Murray, Robertson; Knowles, Duncan, Lindsay, Ferries, G. Ritchie. Orion: Ritchie; Willox, Grant; Fraser, Low, Bremner; Prophet, Thom, Laurie, Henderson, Hogg. Mr. J. Nisbet, Cowdenbeath, was referee.
The Vics opened well, but Orion repulsed the attack, and Murray saved well from Laurie close in. Ritchie was revisited, and play thereafter ruled from end to end. Ritchie and Murray had not a great deal to do, but the latter had the more work. The Blues showed good combination, but lost opportunities through finessing. Play was at times fast and slow, and half-time found the scores standing - Orion 2 goals, Victoria United 1 - Bremner and Laurie having scored for the former, and Duncan for the latter.
On resuming the united went off with a dash, and Ritchie skilfully averted downfall. Orion had slightly the better of the succeeding play, but the Central Parkers reasserted themselves, and adverse luck foisted their intention. The United monopolised the game, but the many opportunities presented to them were wasted through shooting of the most miserable description. G. Ritchie missed the goal with a penalty kick. Orion were rarely beyond midfield, but score the United could not, and time was called with them clustered round the Stripes' goal, and the scores remaining as at half-time.
