THE GAME,
The Victoria United won the toss, and the Lochee kicked off. Fifteen minutes from the start Ritchie scored from a penalty kick for the United, who had been having most of the play. This they continued to have during the remainder of the period, but there was no more scaring up to the time ends were changed. Frequently during the second half the United came within an ace of scoring, and at length Gardiner, from a pass by McHardy, got a second point. The game ended in a win to the United by 2 goals to nil.Source: Aberdeen Journal, 1st may 1899
DUNDEE FOOTBALLER IN TROUBLE.
In Aberdeen Police Court yesterday - Baillie Taggart on the bench - Robert Ross, Ann Street, Dundee, pleaded guilty to having on Saturday, within the Victoria Bridge Football Grounds, Torry, Aberdeen, assaulted George Anderson, 11 years of age, son of John Anderson, hairdresser, Burnett's Close, Aberdeen, by kicking him and knocking him down. It appears that as the members of the Lochee team, who were defeated by 2 goals to 0, were leaving the field a number of boys ran after the accused, hooting him the while. The latter lost his temper, and is alleged to have turned round and chastised one of the boys. This action raised the ire of the crowd, and one of them, a young man, rushed up and expostulated. The Lochee player, however, at once attacked the young man, and struck out at him once or twice with his fists. An excited crowd began to collect, and the affair would probably have had serious consequences had not the police who were on the field put in an appearance, and dispersed the crowd. Ross was ordered to pay a fine of 15s, or suffer seven days' imprisonment.Source: Aberdeen Journal, 2nd May 1899
