Orion 7 - 1 Elgin City

A meagre crowd assembled at Cattofield to see the Orion meet the Elgin City. Orion played about half of their reserves. The teams were: Elgin City: Walker; Sinclair, Hay; Farquhar, Coventry, Fraser; Robertson, Anderson, Jenkins, Milne, McDonald. Orion: Watson; Craig, Ross; Carrie, Craigmyle, Goldie; McPherson, Webster, Hogg, McIntyre, Smith. Referee: Mr P. Simpson, Victoria United.

THE GAME

Elgin City kicked off, and after a spell of midfield play were first dangerous, Watson haying to fist out a good shot. The visitors made some plucky attempts to score in the first half, but failed, while Orion got two goals by Goldie and McPherson. In the second period Elgin netted the ball once, but Orion added five goals to their score, and won by 7 goals to 1.

The days are surely changed when Orion have to send to Elgin for a team to fill in a Saturday afternoon. It is seldom that we have an opportunity of witnessing football as played in the north, but after Saturday's game we came away certainly not enamoured with it. The Orion were not in anything like full strength, reserves being played in most of the positions. If the game did nothing else it showed that Orion have a capital selection of talent in their reserves, every one of whom, with a little coaching, could be entrusted in more serious matches with the "Stripes'" colours.
