Aberdeen 0 - 1 St. Mirren

At Pittodrie, before 14,000 spectators, the Aberdeen team disappointed their friends. Against St Mirren they played a losing game from start to finish. The only goal was obtained by Sutherland after 20 minutes of the second half was gone. He caught up a rebound from one of the passes and gave Anderson no chance. St Mirren were much the superior side, but were weak at goal.

Aberdeen played poorly against St Mirren at Pittodrie, where 14,000 people saw the Paisley club lower the home team's unbeaten record by the only goal of the match. In striking contrast to their display at Firhill the previous week, Aberdeen never seemed to settle down, and all things considered, were fortunate not to have lost by a wider margin. The goal that decided the issue was obtained after 20 minutes of the second half had gone, Sutherland, the visitors' inside left, had shot, and the ball rebounding from the bottom of the upright, he had no difficulty in beating Anderson. Before that both goals had underwent narrow escapes, but generally there was a lack of power behind the attack. In the opening period each side had a goal knocked off for offside. Thomson, for St Mirren, headed through from a cross from the right, and following an exciting passage in the visitors' goalmouth, Robertson headed through for Aberdeen. Apart from these incidents the goalkeepers were well tested, but they would have been seriously at fault had they been beaten.
After St Mirren took the lead, Connon and Hutton changed places on the home side, but Aberdeen were always playing a losing game, and with the exception of a goal, where Anderson gave quite a smart display, there was no polish in their work. St Mirren were the cleverer side in the field, but were palpably weak when within shooting range. There was a deal of good defensive work on both sides, but that of St Mirren was the more constructive. The best forward play was that of the St Mirren left wing, and their clever work supplied one of the compensating features in what was a disappointing exhibition of football. Marshall, the visitors' right back, was the best defender on view, but generally he and his colleagues were allowed too much scope for free kicking. On the home side combination was at a discount, and the individual efforts were unfortunate. Of the Aberdeen team, the only men who played to reputation were Anderson, Hannah, Hume, and Connon, and the best of the opposition were O'Hagan, Marshall, Riddell, Pringle, Wright, and Thomson.
